Wallpaper instructions
With a little preparation, wallpapering is a fun project. Follow these steps and your wall will effortlessly get that beautiful look.
1. Preparation
-
Make sure the wall is smooth, clean, dry and of an even colour.
-
Fill in any holes or cracks with wall filler and remove any old wallpaper.
-
A white background gives the best result and prevents light prints from showing through.
-
Remove the covers from sockets and switches.
-
Wallpapering is easiest with two people.
-
For plasterwork: sound the wall. If it sounds dull, the plaster is loose. Remove loose patches and fill them in properly.
-
Cut the strips to size with the print side facing up.
2. Gluing
-
Use ready-made non-woven wallpaper paste.
-
Apply the adhesive directly to the wall with a roller or brush, slightly wider than the strip.
-
Tip: Use a primer first on highly absorbent walls.
3. Paste
-
Always start with a vertical first row (use a spirit level or plumb line).
-
Smooth with a soft cloth or wallpaper spatula and gently work out any air bubbles.
-
Place the following strips adjacent to each other.
-
Any adhesive residue? Remove immediately with a dry cloth.
4. Cutting
-
Use a sharp knife to prevent fraying.
-
Cut along a wallpaper spatula or ruler for a neat finish on skirting boards and ceilings.
5. Drying time & finishing
-
Let the wallpaper dry undisturbed. Keep windows and doors closed and heat at a moderate level.
-
Do not replace sockets and switches until the wall is completely dry.
