Why We Don't Offer Physical Proofs (and Why That's Better for You)

At Story of July, we're often asked why we don't offer physical proofs of birth announcements. Many other providers do, sometimes even for free. However, we consciously choose not to – and that choice is ultimately in your best interest.

A physical proof might seem like a logical step, but in practice, such a single copy almost always deviates from the actual print run. Different machines, settings, and working methods are used for a single card than for a complete order. As a result, colors, paper feel, and finish can differ from the final result. A proof therefore doesn't offer a reliable picture—and can even create unnecessary doubt.

In addition, the cost of producing and shipping a single card is surprisingly high. We don't think it's fair to pass these costs on to expectant parents, especially when such a proof isn't representative of the actual print run.

Instead, we offer something that does add value: personal guidance, digital samples and physical samples with fictitious data .
You can order a sample card from us that shows the design with sample details. This way, you can literally control the style, size, colors, and paper type without being tied to a fully personalized proof that might not be identical to the final product. This sample gives you a reliable idea of how our cards look and feel in terms of material.

We're also happy to create digital samples for you, so you can see in advance how your own text and layout could look. We'll actively collaborate with you on fonts, color, and layout, ensuring the design perfectly matches your needs.

Our focus is on clarity, honesty, and personal attention. So, no physical proofs, but a process that gives you all the certainty you need upfront – both digitally and with a sample card you can actually review.
